Change of plans

So it's a bummer but the rain is here so the pumpkin patch/haunted house has to wait til next Friday :( guess ill just make some chicken enchiladas and we can watch some movies. Even if it is boring as heck. Oh well, guess walking around in the mud and rain wouldn't be fun either, lol

Halloween mania

So tomorrow will be awesome! We're going to petey's pumpkin patch, then dinner, then the main event... Reaper's haunted house and maze of terror! Apparently it's scarier than the profession houses at parks across North America, including Disney. Then a corn maze in the dark, with whatever terrors lurk in there, I can't find much to give me a gist of it except that I should "save some screams". All I know is ill have the time of my life, and probably a sore throat. To end this post I'll show you my latest Halloween nails.

Welcome to the Stormy Season and Places I'd rather be.

Here comes the stormy season!
So rainy and windy today. Such a change from this past few months, and while I love hearing the rain and wind, I hate having to run to not get wet when I get stuck parked 7 miles from my house. Ok that's an exaggeration but people on our street are so selfish and park just shy of enough room for another car away from each other, just like they do at work.   So I just did the dishes and read my new national geographic special and added new places to my places I have to visit list.

Fifty of them to be exact. So far the places topping my list are:

1) tepuis of southeastern Venezuela. The high plateaus that inspired sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write the book the lost world where dinosaurs still lived on top of the plateaus.

2) bialowieza, the last remnants of a primeval forest that once covered most of Europe. Once a hunting ground for nobility on the border of Poland and Belarus. Guided horse drawn carriage tours into the forest from the town of bialowieza, Poland.

3) badlands of South Dakota. Very cool look back to the place the dinosaurs lived, rich in fossil history.

4) Cape York, although I may never go due to the insane spiders in Australia, this area has it all: sand dunes, wetlands, savannah, rain forests, and scrub. Full of interesting animals including the cassowary, bandicoots, and sugar gliders.

5) jocassee gorges of north and South Carolina. Gorgeous waterfalls, wild turkeys, and the highest concentration of salamanders on earth. Also home to 90% of the worlds Oconee bells, a rare flower that blooms in April.

6) banff, probably the easiest for me, and the only one I've been to before. Next time I want to go on the sulphur mountain gondola.

7) namib, the desert in Namibia. I'd love to see the old abandoned mining towns that the sand is reclaiming.

8) baja, I want to see the cave drawings in San borjitas, north of mulege, Mexico.

9) big bend national park, Texas. More than 40 species of cactus and many animals are found here. One of the least visited national parks in the USA.

10) the great sand dunes of Colorado. You'd never expect sand dunes in Colorado, let alone ones you are encouraged to break pieces off, as they will be smooth again by morning.

11) cordillera Blanca, huascaran national park, Peru. Giant hummingbirds live here and home of the worlds largest bromeliad, the puya. They're 30-40 feet tall.

12) thar desert, India. The desert festival at Rajasthan has camels adorned in colorful finery, snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats, dancing, and people in bright costumes singing ballads of bravery, love, and tragedy. Sounds brilliant,

That's how far I got so far, I still have to finish the chapter on arid places, and then there is coastal (hellllo white sand beaches), equatorial, and polar. Looks like I have a lot of traveling to do!

Then I realized my hay bale decoration was getting wet and I had to act fast because I'm pretty sure wet hay is akin to wet dog, smell wise. So I pulled a black garbage bag over the top, and with great difficulty, around the whole thing and tucked the edges underneath, all while moving it slightly more out of the rain. It is under a roof but the rain is just blowing sideways. I think it's safe now, although the big scarecrow fell over and a couple mini pumpkins came unglued. I can easily fix those. Tomorrow is gonna be hard though, I get off work at 11pm tonight and I'm covering afreen's shift at 6:30. But at least I'm off at 2:30 then. And I can live off caffeine. It's only one day, and I can nap when I get home. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Halloween manicures part 2

So I'm sure everyone who knows me knows how much I love Halloween. And I couldn't even wait a whole day before getting inspired by another person's nails on a blog and deciding to take a stab at them. I decided to put the frankensteins off for a day or two and try this haunted house scene nail art I'd seen. Mine is a little rougher since I don't have a detail brush, and I'm pretty unsteady when working with my left hand, but I like the results. My base coat is essence, it's a sparkly navy blue. Then I sponged on some sparkly opi teal called yodel me on my cell. Then I sponged on a little of the lighter blue essence, and then some gold Nicole by opi from the tips going about halfway up the nail. I sponged a little more of the navy on top at the base of my nail to temper out the color a bit and mix it a bit more. I pulled out a bottle of Sally Hansen yellow and painted on the moons and the lit windows. Here is where I wish I'd had a detail brush so the moon would be rounder and the windows nicer, but I made do. I then took a black polish marker pen and drew a graveyard along all the tips of my nails except the middle fingers. I drew some skeletal trees on my thumbs and pinky fingers as well. For the final touch I drew a haunted house around the windows on my middle fingers and added a couple bats flying across the moon and around the trees. For someone who's drawing ability is not tops, I think I did a good job, at least for a first try. We'll see how long I last before I get the urge to try something new lol. Goodnight.

Halloween manicures

So today I decided to challenge myself to do a different Halloween manicure at least every couple days. Today's turned out cute, but had a small issue. I did pumpkins with candy corn ring fingers. The pumpkins are done with a base of crayola scented nail polish in orange, and a layer of wet n wild fantasy makers jack o lantern from last year. The candy corns use a Sally Hansen yellow and opi white as well as the crayola. The pumpkins turned out cute, although the faces were a little difficult to draw, even with my thin brushed black kiss nail art polish, but the real issue came with the candy corns. They started off well but as the day wears on, the orange and yellow are leaching through the white, making them yellow, orange, and lighter yellow. But at least I'll learn for next time. Tonight I plan to do little cartooney frankensteins inspired by some I saw on google images this morning.

Water marbling - second try

So I decided to give it a second go tonight and I decided on a silver base with teal and sheer glitter swirls. The sheer allows the silver to show through. They're not totally cleaned up yet, the rest of the polish will come off my fingers when I wash my hands, but I'm too tired to fully clean them up right now. Lol. Anyways, I quite like how they turned out.

Taking a Look Back

So today I decided to do a few more recent digi scrapbooking layouts to get printed for our front wall above the tv.  Now, I havent scrapped a page in at least a couple years now, and it turns out its like riding a bike.  Your fingers remember the photoshop commands even if your brain doesnt and they just do what you need them to on their own.  So I headed over to Sweet Shoppe Designs, where I loved back when I was a hardcore scrapbooker, and picked out a camping kit and a road trip kit and created these four layouts to frame and hang up on our empty front wall.

I sent them off to Costco to be printed, they have the best prices, only $2.99 per 12x12.  Everywhere else is around $5.00 per print at that size.  I'm sending my mom to pick them up for me when theyre ready.  I frame them in cheap $12 frames from Michaels.  Plain black metal and they do the trick.  This was the first full day I have spent in this place with nothing to unpack, nowhere that i HAD to go, nothing i HAD to do.  I just picked up a few things from Walmart and hung out around here before Kev suggested we go out to dinner.  We ate at the new location of Original Joes near our house and I can tell you, it was amazing.  I had whole wheat cheese tortellini alfredo.  It was delicious!  I'm now just back to watching the second season of Blue Water High, although I think i'm going to have a look and see what kind of movies are on.  I'm getting a bit tired, which is strange since I slept til noon, but I think a movie on the couch before heading to bed sounds just about right.

Lets try this again...

So as soon as I hit publish on this post previously, it deleted it. So lets try this all over again.

A year and a half ago I tried Netflix.  I was totally dissapointed.  It was basically a list of things I had never even heard of and didn't want to see.  So i cancelled it.  And wrote it off.  But since we moved to a place where we have no access to Shaw on Demand anymore I needed to look for something else.  So I decided to try and give it another shot.  And boy has it improved.  There are an absolute ton of movies and tv shows I want to watch now! So i searched through and found a show i'd never heard of called Blue Water High (or something like that).  Its an Australian teen show about a group of young surfers who get to go to a prestigious surfing academy.  I started watching it and had it in the background ALL DAY! I think i'm on episode 12 now, lol.   And while I was watching I decided to paint my keys, and make them identifiable.  I painted the top of each key white so that the colour I picked for the base would show up nicely.  I painted one key green (Essie - Mojito Madness) with turquoise (sally hansen nail art pen - turquoise) swirls, glitter top coat (OPI - I juggle... Men) and a glow in the dark coating (Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers - Night Glow) and Sally Hansen Insta Dri topcoat.   I then took some zip dry crafting glue and glued some little pink heart gems onto the key.  For the 2nd key I started with a base of a shimmery hot pink (Rimmel 60 Seconds Extreme - Shocker) and and a thin coat of a sheer pink with holographic glitters (OPI Katy Perry - Teenage Dream) and hearts drawn with the turqoise nail art pen.  A layer of insta-dri to finish off the key and I was done.  It took me a couple hours with all the waiting for each layer to completely dry before moving on (and waiting is not my strong suit. lol).  I think they turned out pretty awesome actually, and I can change them up whenever I want with one of my many many nail polishes.

On another topic, My dog seems to be holding a grudge against me for moving out.  We went to my parents place for dinner tonight (and to drop off laundry, lol. Two birds, one stone) and as soon as she saw it was me at the door she turned and walked away.  For the rest of the night she ignored me everytime I called her, turned away, and walked the other direction every time I went towards her.  That dog can certainly hold a grudge, and it sucks.  She's such a cutie, and I miss Scruffy so much, I wish she wasnt so mad at me for moving out.  I could really use her hugs and cuddles, but nope.  She won't let me near her.  I guess i'll just bring her a treat next time I go over and hope food will fix her mood and make her like me again. lol.

I watched the Glee premiere tonight, and man it was so good!!! Rachel's dance teacher is freaking hilarious and I'm so glad Kurt moved to New York!!! I'm sad Mercedes isn't there anymore, or Finn, or Quinn, or Puckerman or Santana, but the new girl is pretty cool, and I love her lunchlady mom.  Sue still has her bite, despite being a mom, and the new Quinn Fabray is a real B****, and a racist, along with her football team lackeys.  And my opinions of Puckerman's half brother are on hold for now, he definitely has issues but I'm not sure which way its going to go, am I going to like him or hate him? Who the hell knows at the moment.  The rest of the original glee club members are awesome, and Younique is now a full time glee member at their school which I'm totally psyched about!! I love him, he's so awesome, and kind of takes over Mercedes place since he is often in drag.   Overall I have high hopes for this season of glee, which will have probably been a challenge for the writers with half the cast gone. So far so good.

Dance moms.  I'm so sad its over.  I love dance moms.  I love Chloe and Christy, and Abby is scary but funny at times.  Maddie is starting to get on my nerves, but Mackenzie just keeps getting better.  I'm so glad Nia is getting more consistently better and higher on the pyramid. I'm excited to see what the new season brings, and the only good thing about dance moms being over for the season is the fact that Dance moms Miami should be starting up soon! I'm so glad to see more of Mia Diaz.

Army Wives. From what i can see online, it looks like this show has gotten the go ahead for 10 more episodes.  I'm soooooo hoping this is true. This show is truly awesome and needs to come back.

So thats it for tonight.
